Wednesday Natter

It's wine time here in Oz, I've had a full day or rather a full week and I'm rather chuffed with myself.   Managed to completly weed my new Bali garden bed, dig out all existing plants and plant some of the treasures I've been propagating just for this garden. I've broken up the clay soil added compost, lime, manure, added a ton of organic garden soil which wasn't enough, just enough to  know I need to buy at least a ton more (so it will be a ton and a half) of organic garden soil before I can complete the transformation.

Monday I went to my almost 70 year old sisters place and did 2 hours of house cleaning for her, she has COPT and there is a lot of stuff she cannot do, 6 months ago she applied for  1 1/2 hours of domestic help every fortnight which is subsidized by our Government as she is on a pension, it will still cost her $25 per visit, although her condition is "chronic" the waiting list for this help is 2 years, I've been doing her cleaning, washing etc every week for the last year, I'll keep on doing it until she gets the help she needs, then I'll only have to go every odd fortnight to ensure there is no dust, mildew or pollen to upset her fragile system.

Every Wednesday I visit my Mom, Mom's 87 and has all these things in place, so my visits are visits, I take her shopping, weed her garden, garden her garden and do the stuff that needs doing.  Today I tried to replace her smoke alarm battery, but she has 9 foot ceilings and I'm 5 foot 2 inches, it didn't work, I googled it an came up with a phone number for the local fire brigade, rang them and before I left they had come and replaced the battery and added Mom to their yearly list, all I have to do is remember to supply the battery which is locked into my electronic calendar 1 week before it's due for the next 5 years.

Ciao

I just do what is needed and about the only place I can have a little whine is here. My sisters grown up children just don’t seem to understand that their Mom needs help, I’ve never heard a word from any of them, they know she has COPT yet they have buried their heads in the sand. I’ve organized my Mom so that she gets all the help she needs and it’s nice to just do things with her when I visit, I play in her garden because I play in gardens.

you must be exhausted, I remember having to do all these things, for my mom – the in laws, kudos. How’s your knees doing? After all the gardening cleaning and such.

My knees like to let me know that they are almost 62 years old, but I have learned to look after them a bit better these days, no squatting and I have a special knee board so that I don’t over tax them. Exhaustion is good it means you sleep well at night time

I cannot use a knee board, I have a stool, it is harder and takes longer, after having knee surgery NO KNEELING

The “builder” modified a commercial knee board for me, it seems to take the pressure off my knees
